Message from Jessica – March 2019

Thank you for being here, friend. Thank you for taking the time out of your insanely busy life to take a moment to read about what Voices in Action has in store for our community. By the way, when did life become so busy? Where did the days of sleeping till noon suddenly become – Inappropriate? Hell if I know. All I know is one day I was making out with a make-believe Teddy Bear, the next ring-leading a goddamn crusade of victims in their march to TELLING THEIR TRUTH!! I must tell you, pretending to make out with a fuzzy bear that is not there is much easier and a whole lot more FUN!

Because, nothing says FUN like leading a movement around SEXUAL ASSAULT, right!?? Right.

The truth is, NO ONE wants to really talk about sexual assault and all that it entails. People want to form Commissions, Organizations, Wear Pins and Accept awards — But, only a select few of these people have the courage to actually DIG DOWN DEEP, risk everything, and make the sacrifices that need to be made in order to fight and change this horrific, dangerous, detrimental, dream sucking epidemic called sexual violence in our industry.

Usually that need comes from being forced to endure the soul crushing experience of being violated to a point where the only way to regain any sense of power or self is to fight back, support other victims and do whatever humanly possible to ensure these violations don’t exist for our next generation of artists.

When  was only seven years old, I layed on my grandparents’ floor filling out some ridiculous survey in a Teen Beat magazine with Alyssa Milano on the cover when I was first asked the question, ‘what do you want to be when you grow up?’ Without thinking, I wrote down the words that have forever be embedded in my heart.  I want to be an actress. This is the innocence and vulnerability on which predators prey upon – they attack, humiliate and violate victims until any semblance of a dream is lost.

My goal with Voices in Action is and always will be to protect every seven year old, laying on their grandparents’ floor with a dream, not having a clue where to begin, but having faith that dream was placed in their hearts for a reason.

If I have to slay every last monster that dares to shatter those dreams, that innocence, that joy within those young girls and boys, and if that costs me my career – so fucking be it. It actually already has – I wouldn’t trade a second.

We created Voices in Action for every dreamer, young and old, so they were able to pursue their dream with the confidence they are SAFE in the pursuit of their art.

We are saying goodbye to the days when PREDATORS IN POWER run the show and dictate our dreams. It ends now.

Thank you for being a part of our journey towards healing and rebuilding our industry and beyond!

In gratitude,
